GRS certification requirements for supply chain

GRS certification requirements for supply chain

Expected results of GRS certification:

The declared recycled materials shall follow a complete and verified chain of custody from input to final product. Application of production requirements Organizations involved in the production and trade of GRS certified products are subject to GRS certification. The "Global Recycled Standard" requires compliance with the requirements of the "Content Declaration Standard".

Production and trade

In addition to the requirements of CCS, all organizations involved in the production or trade of GRS products should comply with the following requirements:

1. All recycled materials entering the supply chain should have a valid transaction certificate (TC) issued by an accredited certification body.

2. The percentage of pre-consumer and post-consumer material content for each batch should be recorded separately at each certification site and recorded on the transaction certificate.

3. Traders with an annual turnover of less than US$10,000 for GRS products and retailers who only sell to final consumers are exempt from the certification obligation; as long as they do not (re)package or (re)label GRS products. Exempt traders with an annual turnover of less than US$10,000 for GRS products must be registered by an accredited certification body and notify the certification body immediately after their annual turnover exceeds US$10,000 or when they plan to (re)package or (re)label GRS products.

4. Where there are differences in production loss rates between recycled and virgin inputs, the certification organization shall address this issue through its mass balance formula for each material to show that the calculations made account for the difference.

5. Buyers of GRS products will be responsible for setting further requirements for specific standards or requirements for input materials to be certified. These additional requirements are independent of GRS and its certification process.
