What does a company that has passed ISO9000 need to do to upgrade to TS16949?
It is completely feasible to upgrade directly from ISO9001 to 16949. The 16949 standard does not specify what kind of system foundation an enterprise must have. Even if your enterprise has not established any system, you can now directly do 16949. It’s just that your starting point is different and the difficulty of doing it is different. 16949 is indeed much more difficult than ISO9000. The biggest difficulty is that 16949 requires enterprises to use five major quality technologies, while there is no such mandatory requirement in ISO9001. For example, 9001 only says that enterprises must use statistical techniques, and there are many means and methods of statistical analysis, but 16949 requires enterprises to understand and use statistical process control, that is, SPC.
I do not agree with the view that 16949 is shallower than QS9000 and VDA61. It should be said that 16949 is an improvement. 16949 also emphasizes customer requirements. Some differences or requirements between QS900 and VDA61 can still be reflected as special customer requirements in the 16949 system documents if the company deems it necessary. There is no contradiction.
As for the companies that have used QS900 but are not enthusiastic about 16949, it is completely understandable because 16949 has too many similarities with it. Moreover, the emergence of a new thing will always face resistance. Moreover, 16949 will replace it in 2006. Isn't this easier to understand?
