GTIN—Global Trade Item Number

GTIN—Global Trade Item Number

What is GTIN?

GTIN is the Global Trade Item Number, which is used to identify the global unique code of commodity items and is the most widely used identification code in the coding system. This code is called the EAN/UCC-14 code structure, which corresponds to the ITF-14 barcode. Its coding rule is the EAN/UCC-13 code of the single product plus the packaging indicator.

GTIN code structure:

GTIN has four different code structures: GTIN-14, GTIN-13 (formerly known as EAN-13), GTIN-12 (formerly known as UPC-12) and GTIN-8 (formerly known as EAN-8). These four structures can uniquely encode products in different packaging forms. Each identification code must be used as a whole. The complete identification code can ensure global uniqueness in the relevant application field.

GTIN-14 - Non-retail product identification code

GTIN-13, GTIN-12, GTIN-8 - Retail product identification codes

GTIN code query application process:

1. Log in to the official website of China Article Numbering Center

2. Follow the website process to register and apply: fill in the real-name authentication information, submit written materials, wait for review, apply for payment, and activate the unified product coding

GTIN code application fee:

One-time joining fee: 1,000 yuan;

Maintenance fee (two years): 2,000 yuan.

How to obtain the GTIN code:

For imported goods, please check the packaging and confirm whether it has a GTIN barcode according to the above official website query method. Contact the foreign company to confirm whether it has applied for GTIN. For exported goods, please apply according to the process.
