Special reminder: The EU prohibits the addition of sugar ingredients to fruit juice

Recently, the European Council passed a new regulation that "adding sugar ingredients to juice is illegal". This regulation will apply to all EU countries and all products. This means that sugar ingredients are no longer allowed to be added to juice.

The main change in the new regulation is that sugar ingredients are not allowed to be added to juice. Previously, the product labeling content "no added sugar ingredients" was used to determine whether exogenous sugar ingredients were added. After the implementation of the new regulation, the labeling content will no longer show this statement. Take tomato juice as an example. According to the new regulations, the management of tomato juice will be transferred from the current general food law management to juice management.

In addition, the new regulations clearly state that the description of juice products must include the names of the fruits used to produce juice products. For juice products produced with more than 3 kinds of fruits, "several kinds of fruits" can be used instead of the names of various fruits in the labeling; for juices of 4 kinds of fruits (blackcurrant, guava, mango, passion fruit), when the soluble solids value needs to be marked, it must be marked in accordance with the requirements of the Food Code.

In this regard, the Zhejiang Xiaoshan Inspection and Quarantine Bureau reminds juice companies exporting to Europe to cancel the process of adding sugar ingredients to juice to avoid export trade risks.
