Ingenico was founded in France in 1980 by Jean-Jacques Poutrel and Michel Malhouitre and is headquartered in Paris. In 2008, after merging with SAGEM Sécurité, Ingenico closed its R&D center in Barcelona. The center developed the Ingenico EFTPOS series.
