What is OCS certification? Development trend of organic content standards

Recently, the American non-profit organization Textile Exchange launched a new organic certification standard - The Organic Content Standard, referred to as OCS certification .

The standard regulates the entire organic industry chain by tracking the cultivation of organic raw materials. Textile Exchange said that OCS will replace the existing OE (Organic Exchange) blended textile standard. In addition, OCS will be applied to the verification of various organically grown raw materials, not just organic cotton .

Relevant statistics show that the global cotton production in 2006-2007 was about 25 million tons, but organic cotton is very scarce.

The survey results of the Organic Cotton Trade Association, a non-profit organization in the United States, show that the output of organic cotton in the same period was 57,900 tons, accounting for only 0.2% of the global cotton output. However, judging from the development trend, the output of organic cotton has shown a significant increase.

In 2001-2002, the annual output of organic cotton was only 6,480 tons, while the output in 2006-2007 increased by 55% over the previous year. In 2007-2008, the output is expected to increase by 25-55% year-on-year.

On the other hand, the stock of organic cotton was only 9,000 tons at the end of July 2007. From the comparison between production and stock, it is not difficult to find that, as environmental protection issues begin to attract global attention, the textile and garment industry is paying more and more attention to the development and use of organic cotton. Therefore, the future of OCS certification is limitless.
